Marion Hawecker

The Metamorphoses

Technique: Feathers, mixed media

Exhibition available in 2 formats for outdoor use and 1 format for indoor use.

Magmatic fragments or abyssal remains,
Rocky gangues conducive to the proliferation of iridescent scales,
Curious geodes, animal bark,
Metamorphic folds sheltering microcosms in their interstices
and endlessly moving efflorescences…

... Marion Hawecker's creatures seem to be transient in the world, as if migrating from one state to another, from one kingdom to another.
They evoke the primordial time of our planet, revealing its impermanence.
Dressed in feathers, they face the current perils. Adaptive strategy? Inter-species hybridization?
Bird-rock, human-lichen, river-fern, it doesn't matter: because, and it is Ovid* who says it, "everything flows, every form is wandering and moving."

* The Metamorphoses is a long Latin poem by Ovid (nearly twelve thousand verses) which brings together several hundred short stories on the theme of metamorphoses from Greek and Roman mythology.
