Hélène Duclos

Hélène Duclos

" I let myself be guided by what I hear, by what I perceive.
I'm staying tuned.
I observe.
I wonder about the weather.
Climate change concerns me.
Time can also be a matter of mood or inner state.
It is time to open our eyes and reflect on our lifestyles.
It is time to invent new forms of relationships with non-humans.
It is time to build a more vibrant world now."

Hélène Duclos's work draws on a vocabulary of recurring forms to construct mysterious universes.
His works seem to depict characters - men, women, animals, sometimes all three at once - in landscapes that evoke ancestral creation myths.
The drawings and paintings invite us to imagine new stories resonating with pagan rituals and votive festivals, as well as with the folklore of our contemporary world.

" I paint in oils, gouache, I draw, I embroider, I engrave, I poetize and I make short animated films with my brother. From time to time, I develop diagrams on the invisible time and space that I devote to my work. I am interested in the different representations of the world and also in the gaps and in-betweens, in these fertile voids that separate or connect two objects or two phenomena. I regularly join forces with other artists. I am involved in collective actions to improve the status of visual artists in France and, more broadly, to reflect on ecological issues and the transformations that must be applied around these questions, in art, culture, democracy, society in general."

His works are permanently represented by the Claire Corcia gallery in Paris, the Olivier Rousseau gallery in Tours and the Florence B gallery in Noirmoutier.
