Emmanuel Pierrot

Still life

Technique: photography.
Exhibition available in several formats.

"Is he a photographer? Graphic designer? A filmmaker of the ordinary and the extraordinary? A griot of the Vosges and beyond? Emmanuel Pierrot is a little and much more than all that. From his farm in the Vosges to his studio in the suburbs of Paris and the peaks of Kyrgyzstan, the world is his cabinet of curiosities, his living encyclopedia.

Whether he's behind his camera, in his chicken coop, or chopping wood, he gleans with his eyes and ears the little nothings and the big wholes that make up life. If it seems that the devil is in the detail, then Emmanuel Pierrot is its scout. He flushes out the last tomatoes and the first snow at the Croix des Monats pass to create never-still lifes that become retinal persistences. Whether he's illustrating an article on the philosopher Hartmut Rosa for Le Monde or photographing a hospital meal tray, he makes the spirit of the times and the ills of this damned planet resonate to invite us to reason, to be moved, and perhaps also to act. In this sense, he probably practices the oldest profession in the world, that of the tracers of life who already worked on the walls of the Lascaux caves.
