Lesbos

Technique: photography
Exhibition available in 2 formats for outdoor use and 1 format for indoor use.

“For several years, I have been collecting plants, seeds, small objects and stones which are the memory of my experiences, of my travels.

In December 2017, I was invited to participate in a European artistic research program bringing together students, artists, philosophers and economists to work on the question of territory.  I went to Lesbos, an island on the border of Europe.

How can you go to Greece without thinking about its history, its philosophers and scholars? For example, it was in Lesbos that Theophrastus was born, around 300 BC.

A student of Aristotle, author of the oldest known treatise on botany, Theophrastus was my first guide.

My other guide was Mustapha.

Mustapha buries the dead among the olive trees, according to Muslim rites. Some have names, others have no identity.

In Lesbos, I collected plants and objects that I photographed. I have  tried to identify the plants, to give them a name, to find their family.

The subjective evocation of events, places and people.
