Marie Freudenreich

Feeling the void

Technique: egg tempera on paper.
Exhibition available in several formats.

Filling the void
Between now
And later,
Today
To a day
That is yet tomorrow,
Yet soon it is to be
Yesterday

Fill the blank
Come in now
And later,
From today
One day
Who is still tomorrow,
But soon will be
Yesterday

“The words capable of saying the same things as a work of plastic art are undoubtedly the words of poets. (…) My work is a kind of path that I take without knowing and without wanting to know my destination. It is only when one stage (such as the application of a color) is completed that I decide on the next, like a walker who decides at each crossroads which direction to take. It seems to me that if I knew how to define my work, I would be incapable of continuing it. (…) It is said that each work is a portrait of its author. Self-portraits of my head have happened to me, of course, but when I paint a table or a bowl, it is also a kind of self-portrait.”

Marie Freudenreich, "sculptor and dauber".

Excerpts from an interview with Lady Elisabeth Itti
